Slavery and our Founding Fathers

Many people wonder why our Founding Fathers wrote "All men are created equal." They wonder this because many of them owned slaves. It is important to understand that these "Fathers" didn't own slaves because they were lazy, racist, or any other reason. It was simply that the Southern economy was reliant on slaves. Free labor was the key to Southern economy success. We all know that slavery is immoral. One would be foolish to try to justify its use. Conversely, it is important to understand that Thomas Jefferson, among others, viewed it as inhumane as well. They were simply reliant on the free labor. So although slavery is unjustifiable, it is important to understand that our Founding Fathers were not ignorant about this. They knew very well of the acts that were taking place. They simply chose the economic side over the humane side. Now, we can all look back and say that it was ridiculous. Our nation may never have survived independently (Away from Britain) without it though.

Upset that Changed the World

The Revolutionary War marked a point in history that changed the world. It began a country that has risen to the Superpower of the world economically, militarily, and politically. 1776 began a journey for an entire nation. For the first time, we felt as Americans that our rights were being violated by King George and Great Britain. We reacted in hostility which later became the Revolutionary War. This war, although heavily one sided, showed the determination of Americans. We had a dream of Freedom and we pursued it. The Revolutionary War helped us begin an era that would radically shape our rights, morals, and beliefs as citizens of the United States. It is very possible that we wouldn't enjoy the luxuries we have today if it wasn't for a few visions of our Founding Fathers. They laid the groundwork, we won the war, and it gave birth to the United States of America.
